Twelve year old Isabel is "one tough cookie". With a will as strong as her sturdy frame, this little girl came to us four years ago fighting mad at a world that had
treated her very badly. Her first year at school ended with Isabel back home to study -- she'd picked a fight with one too many boys! Little by little, as Isabel
discovers that there are people she can trust, this little fighter is learning to deal with things differently. School is a challenge for Isabel, who never attended at
all before coming here to Montebello. When her drug and alcohol addicted parents abandoned Isabel, along with her brother and sisters, the children lived with a very
poor aunt and uncle who were unable to afford the costs of books, uniforms and registration fees which are required even in public schools here in Ecuador. But now,
with the help of patient teachers and tutors in an environment that allows her to move at her own special pace, Isabel is indeed moving forward.
